Honouring Rfn Gurkha Sher Bahadur Thapa, VC

The National Phaleristic Association (NAF) of Italy briefed the San Marino Republic Heads of State, H.E. Alessandro Rossi and H.E. Milena Gasperoni, on 21 June at 5 pm (Central European Time) at the Palazzo Pubblico (the "Government Palace" of the Republic of San Marino), on the issue of the San Marino postal series commemorating the 80th anniversary of the battle of Monte Pulito and the sacrifice of Rifleman Gurkha Sher Bahadur Thapa, who was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross, the highest British military honour awarded for valour "in the face of the enemy".

In this respect, the NAF president, Raffaele Scozzafava, together with the head of the press office, Giovanni Ramunno, and the historian Daniele Cesaretti, illustrated the importance of the Victoria Cross in the Phaleristic context and from a diplomatic point of view.

The institutional presentation was followed by a press conference in English, organized together with Faetano Mayor, Mr. Giorgio Moroni who promoted the initiative.

As part of the initiatives to commemorate the eightieth anniversary of the overcoming of the Gothic Line and the Liberation of Rimini, the National Phaleristic Association has created the "Gotica80" project, which enjoys the patronage of the Ministry of Defense, the Emilia Romagna Region and the Municipalities of Rimini, Bellaria-Igea Marina, Coriano, Misano Adriatico, Montescudo-Montecolombo, Morciano di Romagna, Saludecio, Sassofeltrio, Verucchio and the Embassy of New Zealand in Rome.
